GP Virtual World Spring ’09 Session Overviews
Site Recovery Manager: Magic Bullet for Disaster Recovery?
Presenter: Chris Ward, Director of Solutions Architecture, GreenPages
Site Recovery Manager (SRM) has huge potential for making faster, more reliable disaster
recovery a reality. But is it really the be all, end all solution that many believe? Have you
asked the right business and technical questions within your environment to know if SRM will
be the magic bullet you hope it will be? This session will explore the questions you should be
asking to determine if SRM is the right solution for your IT environment and your organization.
We will also discuss the steps you can take to ensure a successful SRM implementation and
examine some real world SRM success stories—as well as failures—to gain a better
understanding of how SRM can accelerate and improve your disaster recovery initiatives.
Intelligent File Virtualization: Break Free from the Constraints of Common
File Storage
Presenter: Mario Brum, Senior Consultant Enterprise Solutions, GreenPages
Break free from the constraints of common file storage. The challenge in today’s IT
environments is to manage ever increasing amounts of unstructured data. Each new file
server or Network Attached Appliance (NAS) added to your infrastructure adds another layer
of complexity and creates multiple points where end users can store their data. This complexity
is further increased if you have to support different devices providing CIFS and/or NFS and
many authenticating layers in between.
File virtualization solves this dilemma in a simple and effective manner by eliminating the
static mapping between client and storage resources. This allows the composition of storage
resources to change and move data in the background without ever affecting the front end
clients.
In this session, we will explore the key attributes of file virtualization, including:
- Simplified file access
- Simplified management
- Non-disruptive data migration between any CIFS/NFS device or file
- Automatic storage tiering
- Efficient data replication
- Dynamic load balancing
The Next Generation VMware Infrastructure: vSphere 4
Presenter: Chris Ward, Director of Solutions Architecture, GreenPages
This don’t-miss session will cover new features, enhancements, and naming included in
vSphere, the newest release of VMware's flagship virtualization project (formally known as
Virtual Infrastructure and ESX). Attendees will gain a solid understanding of the major new
high value / high impact products and features expected in 2009.
Topics covered include Fault Tolerance, vNetwork Distributed Switch, Third Party virtual
switches, management scalability for larger data center deployments including performance,
host profiles, vStorage improvements, performance charts/event alarms, vApps, and
DPM enhancements.
Data Center 3.0—The Name of the Game Is Changing in the Infrastructure.
Will You Be Ready?
Presenter: Mario Brum, Senior Consultant Enterprise Solutions, GreenPages
Organizations have found that virtualization solves a broad set of challenges.
Disaster recovery solutions with virtualization are simple, reliable, and more cost effective.
Capital and operating costs can be lowered in virtual desktop environments with the use of
centralized servers and thin clients. Development, test, and production environments can
coexist on the same servers, and application deployment can be decoupled from server
purchasing decisions. With virtualization, new applications can be deployed and scaled on
demand to accommodate changing business needs.
This presentation will focus on how to bring all of these technologies together and how
you can leverage infrastructure that has been designed to support virtualization. We will
also offer a view into the next 12 months and what we anticipate the market will be
implementing in 2010.
