By Chris Ward, GreenPages’ Director of Solutions Architecture
The virtual desktop space is one of the fastest growing, most important technology sectors today. Over the past year in 2009 we saw a lot of new advancements in VDI technology from both a hardware and software perspective. In the hardware arena, we saw greater density in the number of vms you could run per physical server, and advancements by industry leaders such as Intel and Cisco that made that density possible.
On the software side, there were new advancements that helped expand the number of use cases that VDI could be a fit for. We also got analysis and monitoring tools specifically tailored to VDI environments. This is key because when you’re designing the environment, it’s important to ensure the level of user experience is as good as, if not better, than what users are accustomed to on their physical PCs.
