As the IT world adopts virtualization and cloud-based computing architectures for their many benefits, changes to the way IT manages these environments need to be considered. Many organizations use reduced management of physical servers as a cornerstone in the ROI argument for virtualization. While true, this is only part of the story. The management of virtualized workloads and cloud architectures adds new elements to the IT management landscape and alters traditional server management practices.

Important Changes to Licensing in Virtual Desktop Environments
For customers who have Microsoft Software Assurance (SA), you no longer have to pay an additional fee to access virtual Windows desktops. In other words, with SA, Virtual Enterprise Centralized Desktop (VECD) is now free. This equals a savings of approximately $23 per year per device to the customer.
• For client devices not covered by SA (thin clients, PCs running Linux, Macs, etc.), the annual fee for connecting to Windows virtual desktop environments is now $100 instead of $110. Also the name of this was changed from "VECD" to "VDA." (Virtual Desktop Access)
• The new VDA license allows the user to access his or her virtual desktop from different client devices (although the license is tied to the primary device and not the user)
