Network Access Control:
Enforcing User Focused Access Controls Seamlessly

Network Access Control, NAC, is a simple idea: Authenticate every user connecting to the network, then enforce an access control policy based on who they are and other environmental information, such as end point security checks and wired versus wireless access methods.

What can Network Access Control Enforce?

Network Access Controls can be an appliance or software solution that enforces Identity Management, Endpoint Compliance and a Usage Policy. Let’s define those a little further: Identity Management validates who you are, what you are connecting with, where you are connecting from and when are you trying to connect; all in real time. Endpoint compliance enforces minimum requirements needed on the endpoint to successfully gain access. Usage Policy enforcement protects bandwidth usage and ensures integrity by tracking activity and enforcing acceptable usage policies through identification, notification, problem isolation and corrective action. These three pieces unify the process for controlling and protecting your network and resources.

NAC Compliments Conventional User Security Methods:
Conventional security methods such as Antivirus, Anti-Spyware, Desktop Firewalls, and Operating System Patching alone are not working. As enterprise networks become more dispersed, network administrators are challenged with protecting their borders from un-trusted users as well as trusted users that maybe infected with viruses, spyware and other malware.  In order to minimize a potential outbreak that could spread throughout your network, administrators are implementing end-point inspection and control.
