GreenPages Delivers Integrated VCE Technology at VMworld; Showcases VDI Expertise by Running 2650 Virtual Machines on Cisco UCS
Kittery, ME—September 22, 2009—GreenPages Technology Solutions, a national IT consulting and integration company, recently demonstrated the extreme scalability of an enterprise VMware View virtual desktop environment at VMworld in San Francisco.
GreenPages’ engineers were able to run and manage a total of 2650 virtual machines (vms) on a Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) connected to an EMC Symmetrix V-Max storage system—all live in the company’s booth during the 4-day virtualization event.
“When the industry is averaging approximately 10 vms per blade, achieving density levels of 450 vms per blade is simply astounding,” said John Ross, GreenPages’ CTO. “The ability to deploy hundreds of vms quickly on a system that consolidates networking, applications, servers, and storage—is going to fundamentally change how organizations operate their IT and their business.”
Specifically, GreenPages’ engineers were able to run 2650 virtual machines on:
- Total of eight Cisco UCS blades, 2 socket quad core Nehalem at 2.95 GHz with 48 gig of RAM per blade with QLogic FCoE CNAs
- EMC Symmetrix, 16 EFD (6.4TB raw), 20 TB of Fibre Channel disks, 15k rpm, 128GB cache
- Cisco MDS FC Switching
- Nexus 7000 for 10GB LAN Connectivity
In addition to VMware, Cisco, and EMC, GreenPages also showcased new VDI technologies from partners Virtual Storm and Liquidware Labs. Virtual Storm’s technology reduces your entire IT environment requirements to the absolute minimum enabling you to scale thousands of virtual machines in seconds. Liquidware Labs’ Stratusphere offers granular desktop assessment and diagnostic tools to accelerate VDI—from pilot to production.
