GreenPages Targets SMB Market with Virtual Computing Environment (VCE)
Benchmark Hospitality International Benefits from Combined Virtualization Solutions
Kittery, ME—August 16, 2010—GreenPages Technology Solutions, a national consulting and integration organization and Cisco Authorized Technology Partner (ATP), announced today that it is offering comprehensive virtualization support to small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs) through the Virtual Computing Environment (VCE) solution.
VCE is a coalition of three of the leaders in enterprise network infrastructure and virtualization – Cisco, VMware and EMC. These Tier 1 manufacturers have combined their expertise in servers, virtualization and storage to create the comprehensive VCE virtualization solution. VCE uses a common set of tools that make it easier to deploy, as well as a single interface that makes it easier to manage.
This is GreenPages’ latest groundbreaking approach to the virtualization needs of its customers. Before the Vblock approach was formalized, GreenPages rolled out one of the first combined virtualization solutions for Benchmark Hospitality International, a leader in the management and marketing of resorts, conference centers, hotels, and Personal Luxury Hotels™.
“Not only were we able to successfully implement it for Benchmark Hospitality International, but we are also deploying it at GreenPages for our own production system,” said John Ross, the Chief Technology Officer at GreenPages. “We anticipate pretty rapid adoption of VCE for the SMB market as more small to mid-sized enterprises realize they can achieve the same benefits as larger organizations from virtualization. As a Cisco Authorized Technology Partner, we have the expertise and experience to successfully execute the comprehensive virtualization strategy that SMB customers need to be successful in today’s challenging business and technology environment.”
By consolidating the unused computing power of traditional conventional or blade servers into one or more virtual servers, SMBs can reduce the amount of servers, cabling, switches and other physical infrastructure required to service their data needs. This, in turn, lowers the power consumption, cooling requirements, and even the footprint of the data center – ultimately lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO) by as much as 25 percent once the environment has fully adopted the platform.
“The VCE initiative and the Vblock architecture that it is based upon were originally designed for the large enterprise,” Ross said. “What we have done at GreenPages is to develop a reference architecture approach – model frameworks designed to meet the needs of different sized organizations, including the SMB market, for the virtualization of servers and storage.”
For instance, Ross says SMB customers should not require a Cisco 7000 Nexus Series Switch that is used for large enterprises. Instead, using C-Series rack mount servers, GreenPages installs smaller switches – such as Nexus 4900- or 5000-level switches – for organizations with less than 2,000 seats.
“We can take the concept surrounding the reference architecture in the Vblock and scale it to the smaller edge in order to better meet the needs of the small and mid-sized enterprise organizations,” said Ross. “However, because of our experience with VCE for large enterprises, we can provide the assurance to our SMB customers that all of the configured VCE pieces and parts have been thoroughly tested and work well with one another.”
