Data Protection Methodologies

GreenPages uses a variety of data protection methodologies to help organizations protect their data. We begin with protecting data where it is created and lives in primary storage and within applications; this can include choosing the proper disk redundancy and clustering of servers.

The next layer of protection is backup (and recovery) of data, multiple copies made of full data sets, or incremental changes intended for operational recovery of applications in the event of local data loss or corruption.

Data protection methods then extend out to other sites, allowing for remote backup of mobile workers or branch offices, protecting the productivity and efforts of staff no matter where they are.

Finally, replication of data between far-flung geographic locations, or even within a metro area, with the intent of recovering entire applications with minimal loss of data and downtime, constitute the next level of data protection. This encompasses DR at its most extreme level.

How Has Virtualization Changed Data Protection?

Dramatically. Servers are now files, grouped together within physical hosts that now contain upwards of 20 or 25 server workloads. When one server goes down, 20 applications could go off line.
