Effects of Solid-State Drives on Microsoft SQL Server 2008
This whitepaper contains the results of testing conducted to better understand how Kingston® solid-state drives positively affect the scalability of Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 databases. The findings shown here are from the end user’s perspective, using TPC-C-like benchmarking of a large OLTP database. The results show a significant increase in overall potential user load and scaling, while at the same time providing improved response time under all tested loads. In addition, in a 15,000 user configuration, a 45-percent power savings was realized when using solid state over traditional hard-disk drives. Kingston solid-state drives can provide a better end user experience at a reduced or similar cost at a significantly reduced complexity when compared to normal disk subsystems.
