SQL Server
GreenPages' engineers use Structured Query Language, (SQL), to build and manage database-specific applications such as Microsoft SQL Server-a relational database management system for Windows. SQL Server enables easy retrieval of data stored in relational database management systems. Using SQL Server, GreenPages can also create, manipulate, and modify the database architectures itself.
How SQL Server Works
The most common operation in SQL Server databases is the query. SQL queries allow users to specify a desired result set while the database management system plans, optimizes, and performs the operations necessary to efficiently produce that result set. Although SQL is a set-based, declarative language, there are many extensions to standard SQL which add additional functionalities.
SQL Server Advantages
One of the greatest advantages to SQL Server is its broad range of native data analysis and reporting tools. In fact, SQL Server Reporting Services is one of SQL Server's most prominent and widely used features.
SQL Server includes support for database mirroring and clustering. SQL Server also supports data replication across three different scenarios:
- Snapshot Replication: SQL Server enables snapshots of a database to be pushed out to all replication subscribers of a server.
- Transaction Replication: Changes to the SQL Server database are continually published to clients.
- Merge Replication: The SQL Server database is synchronized with other servers involved in the replication. All database changes occur independently and are synchronized among all databases.
SQL Server 2005
SQL Server 2005 offers GreenPages' engineers increased scalability, availability, and security to enterprise data and analytical applications while making them easier to create, deploy, and manage.
SQL Server 2005 delivers business intelligence integration and client connectivity via the web services SOAP protocol—a simple XML based protocol that lets applications exchange information over HTTP. This allows non-Windows clients to communicate cross platform with SQL Server.
SQL Server 2005 also supports the .NET Framework so that procedures can be written in any .NET language, using the entire set of libraries available to the.NET framework, as well the Common Type System.
