Universal Storage Platform V

The Hitachi Data Systems Universal Storage Platform V (USP–V) is a storage controller technology that can virtualize external storage, logically partition that storage, and do thin provisioning and universal replication in flexible configurations.

The USP–V provides the foundation for matching application requirements to different classes of storage. The USP–V packages and delivers critical services such as:

• Virtualization of storage from Hitachi and other vendors into one pool
• Thin provisioning through Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning for nondisruptive volume expansion
• Security services, business continuity services and content management services
• I/O load balancing to improve application performance
• Nondisruptive dynamic data migration from Hitachi and other storage systems

Universal Volume Manager
The Universal Volume Manager (USP–VM) is the modular version of the USP–V, and a smaller footprint solution that many of our customers have fit into their modular storage environment. The USP–VM can scale up to 32 petabytes and provides a common interface for all of your external storage.

HDS Storage Software
With Hitachi software, such as Universal Volume Manager, Virtual Partition Manager, and Tiered Storage Manager, you can seamlessly migrate data off of older or less reliable arrays, create Virtual Storage Machines (think of dedicating cache, ports and disk to your ESX hosts to eliminate I/O contention) and many other otherwise arduous storage management tasks.
