9 Tips to Protect Your Environment from Cryptolocker

Cryptolocker and crytpoWall are variants on a very popular virus known as ransomware. Ransomware has increased as a threat drastically in the market over the last several years. The virus gets into an environment, encrypts files, and puts up a ransom page for the victim to send a form of untraceable payment in order to gain back the ability to access those files. This really started back in 2005 and by 2008, these software virus companies had figured out how to monetize themselves with fake anti-virus and cryptoware virus packages.

In this video, I give an overview and background of cryptolocker, explain how it infiltrates environments, as well as provide 9 crucial tips to help protect your environment. The number of attacks continue to increase, so it is imperative you take the necessary steps to protect your organization. The tips revolve around:

    1. Network Access Control
    2. Next gen firewall
    3. Open DNS
    4. Anti-virus at the server level
    5. Backups
    6. Mail scrubbing
    7. User policies
    8. Social engineering
    9. Gap analysis and gap training
