Data Center Virtualization

Extending the concept of server virtualization to the entire data center

The transformation of computing environments into fully software defined data centers involves separating the control plane (management) from the data plane (physical infrastructure). This is a markedly different approach from traditional application-specific and hardware-centric technologies. But with IT staffs spending the majority of their time keeping data center lights “on,” IT shouldn’t care where the underlying infrastructure (storage, networking, compute) is—they should just care that they have powerful unified management and control.

The Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) promises all of this but the building blocks of any SDDC strategy must start with several key data center virtualization initiatives, specifically:

    • Server: masking of server resources (including the number and identity of individual physical servers, processors, and operating systems) from server users to increase resource utilization and ensure capacity.
    • Network: splitting available network bandwidth into independent channels that can each be allocated to a particular server or device in real time.
    • Storage: pooling physical storage from multiple network storage devices into what appears to be a single, centrally managed storage device

GreenPages helps organizations accomplish all of the above data center virtualization initiatives to help them drive forward with a software defined data center strategy. By helping to create a completely abstracted datacenter that can move seamlessly between private and public platforms, we create competitive advantage for clients.
